Do you ever have one of those days or even weeks where you just can’t seem to be motivated to do the things you know are going to make a difference to your life and the life of others around you?
Do you ever find yourself daydreaming about a different life?
Do you ever find yourself on Facebook instead of doing the work that is expected of you?
I had one of those experiences not too long ago. I found every excuse in the book to do ‘other things’ – read a book, went shopping for shoes and some neat new clothes – made new friends on Facebook – you know all those things that are good relaxation but also can lure us to take more relaxation time than we actually planned.
I was in the lure of doing nothing.
I decided I needed help to motivate me again. Who could I call to give me support and encouragement? To whom could I admit that I needed help? And then I got an idea. The TED website is full of inspiration, motivation, new ideas and rejuvenation! I went to the site.
And there I listened to Isabel Allende telling stories of passion. I laughed, I cried and I decided to get busy.
Ms. Allende carried the Olympic torch in Torino right behind Sophia Loren. All the cameras were on Sophia – and Isabel was in those pictures too – mostly jogging between Sophia’s legs . She tells a wonderfully funny story about that 4.5 minutes of her life, but she also tells stories of a Tutsi mother and others who have done things to make the world a better place.
As you listen to her, I dare you not to get going and do the little things (or big things) in your life that can make a difference!
